Winter Storm

Last weekend, during the snow storm in the Cascades I decided to take a trip to Leavenworth. It snowed all day and accumulated about a foot of snow, adding to the 6-8 inches already on the ground. Needless to say, when it came time to leave my car was pretty buried and I was pretty doubtful I would make it out of the driveway. Without any hesitation, rocking, and effortlessly my Subaru Outback Sport plowed its way out and I was on my way. This is why I love my Subaru, why do you love your Subaru?

Onstar MyLink: Take Control of Your Vehicle

General Motors introduced a new mobile application that will allow Chevrolet owners to connect to their vehicles and access important information about their car. The information includes fuel stats, such as range, gallons of gas remaining, lifetime mileage and miles per gallon, tire pressure, and oil life remaining. It also allows the user to lock/unlock the vehicle, remotely start the vehicle, and activate the horn and lights. The app gives you quick access to an OnStar Advisor, Roadside Assistance, and the dealer of your choice in case problems arise or you need to schedule your next service appointment.

The OnStar MyLink app works with the Iphone and Android OS phones and is supported by most 2011 Chevrolet models, including the Avalanche, Camaro, Cruze, Equinox, Impala, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse, and Volt. For more on the MyLink app and how you can take control of your vehicle, check out the OnStar website.

Spy Shot of the Chevrolet Z28 Camaro

Auto Blog recently caught Chevrolet testing the 2012 Z28 Camaro at the Nürburgring. The Z28 Camaro will be powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8. The LSA V8 is the same engine used in the Cadillac CTS-V, which puts 556 horsepower at the wheels. The Z28 may be featured at the Detroit or Los Angeles auto shows and its release should be coming sometime in 2011.

Volt Update: 50 Mile Electric Range

General Motors has released an updated electric-only range of 50 miles for the Chevrolet Volt, up from 40 miles. The further it will go, the less gas stops you have to make, and the less money you spend on fuel. I would say this is a good improvement.

GM Thinking Green With The Volt

General Motors has announced it has a plan for old or worn out Volt batteries. While new, the 16 kilowatt-hour battery used in the Volt stores enough energy to power a 60W light bulb for about 267 hours or move the Volt 40 miles. As the battery ages it will loose storage capacity, which is why GM has issued a standard 8 year and 100,000 mile warranty on its battery pack.

According to GM the battery will last for 10 years and at that point its capacity will have decreased to about 10 kilowatt-hours. This is the point where GM says the battery can be used on the power grid. 10 kilowatt-hours is about what a single-family household will use in 8-10 hours. A market for used batteries will be a great way to reuse the batteries and give owners some trade-in value for the old parts.

Your Safety Today: A Look Back

In terms of vehicle safety, 1959 wasn't the year to be getting in a wreck. I wasn't alive in the 50's, but after watching this video I feel much safer in newer vehicles. Chevrolet has made major strides in vehicle safety in the last ten years to make sure we are safe on the roads.

Old Commercial, Still Funny

This is a commercial from 2008 for the 5-door Subaru WRX STI. Its a few years old, but its still funny.

Subaru Celeno: The New Style Subaru

Subaru is at it again with another bold concept car. This design comes from car designer Xuacu Pérez Quesada and represents Subaru's attempt to spice up a line once described as "boring". I look forward to seeing more concepts like the Celeno and Hybrid Tourer to see where Subaru's designs are headed.

Chevrolet Announces Cruze Hatchback

Even before the U.S. release of the Chevrolet Cruze this month, Chevrolet has announced a hatchback model of the popular Cruze. The Cruze has been available outside the U.S. for some time now and with its success its only natural for GM to release a new model. From the side the Cruze hatchback looks a lot like a 5-door Subaru Impreza. Unfortunately this model will not be available in the U.S. and there is no word of if or when it could be released in North America. Maybe we will know more once the five-door hatchback Cruze is unveiled at the Paris Motor Show this month.

Spy Shots: Subaru FT-86

Thanks to Brenda Priddy & Company for getting these shots of the Subaru FT-86 coupe . The FT-86 coupe is an STI variant that both Subaru and Toyota will produce. It was thought the Subaru version would be rear-wheel drive, but rumors suggest it could be all-wheel drive like the rest of the Subaru line. Find more about the FT-86 at
