The 2011 Chevrolet Caprice PPV

More News on the Volt and its Premium

The latest news on the Chevrolet Volt has surfaced and it does seem a little strange. The range extender, a 1.4-liter 80 horsepower gasoline engine, will require premium fuel and GM hasn't given a reason for the requirement as of yet. Since the point of the Volt is to use less gas, paying for premium fuel seems to be a moot point. If you use the Volt on a full charge and don't travel more than 40 miles, you will be solely using the battery power and this should not be a huge worry. For more on the Volt and the use of the range extender and batteries check out this video.

Boulder Creek Day HIke

The Boulder Creek trail head is located between Darrington and Arlington on Highway 530. Going North on I-5 take exit 208 and head about 20 miles down highway 530. Take a right on to French Creek Road and the trail head is at the end of the gravel/dirt road, which is about 4 miles. The Boulder Creek Trail isn't too far North and the hike isn't too difficult, so it makes for a great day hike. Once in, the trail takes you through the Mount Baker National Forest. Along the trail are two waterfalls, the second of which is bigger and in the picture to the left. There are a few steep areas that get a little narrow, so be prepared. The entire hike takes about four hours, so make sure and pack a snack. Here is a map if you need visual directions from I-5.

The 2011 Chevy Volt Gets Priced

Today, at the Plug-In 2010 Press Conference Chevrolet released pricing and leasing options for the Volt. Before Federal and State tax incentives the base Volt will be priced at $41,000. With $7,500 in tax incentives the price of the Volt will be reduced to $33,500. Leasing options start at $350 a month for 36 months and will require a $2,500 down payment, a rate that includes the $7,500 tax incentive.

The base options in the Volt put this vehicle above any economy car, which inpart explains the high asking price. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, Bose audio system, navigation with seven-inch screen, an eight-year/100,000 mile battery warranty, and five years of OnStar service (standard price = $300/year). Availability of the Volt this December will still be restricted to six states and GM has announced the rest of the country, as well as the Northwest, will see the Volt 12-18 months from the limited release. The Chevy Volt and its Awesome Features

Here's another video from Chevrolet showing the driver instruments. With synchronized boot up screens, touch screens, touch sensitive buttons, Google map integration, and a customizable dash, the technology in the Volt is looking pretty sleek. As more incentives are added, such as free charge stations, extended free OnStar trial periods, and phone integration, the Volt may be hard to pass up. I have one question though, with all the technology in the Volt what will the learning curve be for working the vehicle and its long list of features?

Chevrolet Volt gets Battery Warranty Information

Chevrolet recently released the factory warranty for the Volt batteries, which is going to be eight years or 100,000 miles. General Motors has developed the battery pack system to last the life of the vehicle, but in case problems arise the warranty will have you covered. GM also released more specifications for the battery pack, which weighs 400 pounds, is water cooled and contains 288 LG Chem lithium cells. Also, 95% of the battery pack component were designed and developed by GM. The length of the warranty should soothe some skeptics, as a major concern has been the cost of replacing the battery back. Please refer back to our previous Volt posts for more information about the technology in the car.

Chevrolet Corvette gets its own TV Spot

The Perana Z-One Powered by Corvette

The Perana Z-One, a limited edition coupe styled by Zagato powered by the Corvette engine, was never going to be available in the United States. Recently though, Superperformance, an American car manufacturer, has been given exclusive rights for manufacturing the Perana and will produce 99 a year. For under $100,000, the Perana comes with the option of a 505-horsepower LS7 engine from the ZO6 and comes standard with navigation and infotainment system. It has a much sleeker look than both the Rossi Sixty-Six and the Stingray Corvette, other rare or concept versions of the Corvette. There will be more pictures to come.

Safe Kids: Open Water Safety

Safe Kids is always recommending good ways to keep your kids safe this summer. Here I want to emphasize the importance of a Coast Guard approved life jacket while swimming or boating in open waters. Unlike a pool, dangers in open waters such as river currents, ocean undertows, changing weather and uneven surfaces can be very dangerous. As an active supporter of Safe Kids we want emphasize the importance of keeping your kids safe during the summer months. Remember, proper supervision and equipment can make a huge difference. If you want more information on this article or other Safe Kids information please visit their website.

The Subaru Hybrid Concept: Follow-Up

The Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept was first shown at the Tokyo Car Show in late 2009. The Tourer features two electric motors, one near the rear of the vehicle for low-speed acceleration and in the front an electric motor connected to a turbocharged gas engine. It also features Subaru's standard symmetrical all-wheel drive. So far, there hasn't been any talk of this vehicle hitting the market, but Subaru said this will be the direction of their new designs. They want to design vehicles with less character lines, stating "cars have too many character lines now". If it did hit the market, unfortunately it would be without the gull wing doors seen the pictures from the earlier post.

4 States Added to Volt Launch

As Chevy prepares to launch the Volt, Washington is feeling a little left out. The only states first announced in the rollout were California, Michigan, and Washington D.C. Recently, General Motors announced four more states that will take part in the fall launch - but still no Washington. The states include Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Texas. The announcement came before the Volt took its "Freedom Drive", a 1,776 mile drive from Austin, Texas to New York City. As the Volt begins to hit the production line early this fall, we are keeping our fingers crossed that Washington will be added to the list of launch states.

When is Washington going to see the Volt?!
